Biography[]
(Anime)[]
Varte first meets Gallet when he saves him from two thugs who are trying to rough him up. Upon introducing himself, Varte takes Gallet to the arena and introduces him to Graham Leonard, the chairman of the Mauve support council. The three of them then watch the match between Zephyr Try and Varte's father, Lucian Parx. During the match, Varte becomes very disturbed when he notices that Zephyr already knew what deck his father would use and had already developed a counter deck.
After the battle which ends in Lucian's defeat, Lucian cries foul and tries to get a re-match. However, this causes a riot. In the ensuing riot, Varte tries to reach his father and gets caught in the brawl. Defeating his attackers, Varte rushes up to his father. Suddenly, Lucian is stabbed from behind by an unknown assailant and dies. Crying for his father, Varte soon finds himself in a strange realm with Gallet with Mother Core behind them. Within the void, the red core appears from his chest and Varte passes out.
One week later, Varte regains consciousness to find that his father has been confirmed dead. Meeting with Chairman Leonard, the chairman convinces him to join a Mauve school. During their time at the academy, Varte secretly investigates his father's death and discovers that Graham Leonard was the one who ordered the hit on his father. He then forms a resistance with his teacher, Als Glynnhorn and his friends, Morgan Baxter and Snow McClain, disguising it as an Grand Rolo research club. He also constructs a resistance base beneath their clubroom.
One day, when Varte was finally ready, he showed Gallet the resistance base and announces his intention of going up against the Unified Government, revealing the base's surplus of weapons. Upset, Gallet tries to convince Varte to seek a different path from violence. But this doesn't dissuade him. Instead, Varte reveals the truth of his father's death to Gallet and asks to meet Lime.
The next day, Gallet and Varte go to visit Lime in Vanilla and asks her to analyze some data. Checking the data, Lime reveals that Zephyr Try has been dealing with some underground figures on Graham's and the Unified Government's behalf. She also reveals that Graham has been committing tax evasion, taking bribes to create laws to oppress Mauve, before handing Varte the data.
That night, Varte and Gallet infiltrate Graham's mansion and confronts him on his crimes. Varte then tells Graham that they will keep the data secret, so long as, Graham reveals that he leaked Lucian's deck to Zephyr and steps down from his position. Graham, however, scoffs them and refuses, mocking their naivety in the process. Satisfied, Varte pulls out a gun and threatens Graham. However, Gallet stops him and the two of them are arrested by Graham's security detail.
The next day, Als bails the pair out of jail. During the drive back, Als tells Varte that Graham has stepped down, but warns them that the two of them have been put on the Government's wanted list because of what they did. Varte then gets into an argument with Gallet over their conflicting ideals, causing the pair to decide to have a card battle to decide their futures. During the battle, Varte and Gallet are unable to agree, leading Varte to lose. After the battle, Gallet decides to leave the Special Zone to search for the legendary cards in his father's data.
While Gallet is away, Varte works on spreading his movement and gathering allies from the safety of the school. One day, Varte receives a visit from Gabra Dow who brings him an offer from Graham to become a professional card player with Gallet. However, Varte refuses, knowing what his fate might be if he did accept. Irritated, Gabra challenges Varte to a card battle and winds up losing to Varte's new deck.
Later that night, Varte receives a visit from Vizarga. Introducing himself as the successor to the Otherworld Records, Vizarga warns Varte that the appearance of the Core's Light Bearers is a sign of the change of era and encourages Varte to continue his path. Intrigued, Varte asks him if he knows what the Mauve are and Vizarga suggests that Varte read Volume 78, Chapter 1 of the Otherworld Records. Vizarga then recites the passage suggesting a Purple King who lead the Mauve will arrive. This leads Varte to ask if the Otherworld Records is a book of prophecy. Vizarga then tells Varte that it is up to him to decide before vanishing.
Some time later, Varte discovers the truth of Zephyr's circumstances and orders Snow and some troops to retrieve Zephyr Try and escort him to the same arena Lucian died in. There, Varte and Zephyr have a card battle. During the battle, Varte reveals his plans to initiate a war with the Unified Government and invites Zephyr to join his cause. Zephyr, however, refuses and informs Varte that his family is being held as political prisoners to ensure his loyalty to them, so he cannot accept his offer. However, Varte being fully aware of that fact, had already taken steps. As he and Zephyr are battling, Varte has Morgan take a small force of troops to rescue Zephyr's family from a Unified Government controlled house. Varte then proceeds to beat Zephyr. After the battle, Varte tells Zephyr that his family has been freed and is now under their protection. Varte then implores Zephyr to join his cause and Zephyr agrees and tells him that he will meet Varte at the valley. However, this is not to be, as Zephyr ends up dying delivering a card to Varte, while he is preparing to begin his revolution.
At the same time in the Special Zone, Varte launches his aerial fortress. Addressing his raging followers, Varte makes a video broadcast and announces his intention to go to war with the Unified Government and the rest of the world. During his speech, he also reveals the truth of his father's murder and Graham's crimes to the world. As a demonstration of his power, Varte orders Morgan to send out some drones to destroy a power plant.
After his speech, Varte receives a robot with Zephyr's card in it and realizes what had happened to him. Suddenly, Varte senses something and is transported to a world of cards as Gallet is battling Vizarga. Inside the space, Varte is confronted by Gallet who implores him to stop as his war will not solve the discrimination against their people and will only beget more prejudice and violence. Varte replies that he understands that Gallet is serious about solving problems with card battles, however, nobody will listen to him if he doesn’t have might behind him. He then further argues that nobody will understand the Mauve’s pain unless it is etched into them.
Gallet disagrees, but Varte declares that he has made up his mind and nothing will deter him from his path. He then asks Gallet how he plans on saving everyone and Gallet reveals that he doesn’t know, but feels that if he keeps moving towards his future, he will find an answer someday. Gallet then declares he is the key to the revolution, angering Varte. Upset, Varte then grabs Gallet by the collar and asks why Gallet is so intent on walking the path of a martyr. Gallet then pushes Varte off and tells Varte that he believes that Varte will see things his way eventually. He then proudly declares that he will erase all prejudice and discrimination because his life is the Mauve’s revolution.
After Gallet’s victory over with Vizarga, Varte appears before Gallet before he heads off to Grand Rolo. Understanding his friend’s intentions, Varte acknowledges his friend’s resolve and bids him farewell and good luck on his journey.
