BS28-X03

Ultimate Dragon (極竜 ; kyokuryuu) is a family premiered in BS28. It is the shared family between the three final aces of Mugen, Ian, and Choco in the anime Saikyo Ginga Ultimate Zero Battle Spirits. They are not restricted to a particular color, and most of them are Ultimates.

History[]

Even though the three characters were put into three different colors, they did have supports to allow them to be used in one deck together, particularly thanks to the Ultimate Trigger of Ultimate-Chocodra being able to summon the other Ultimates without paying the cost. As Ultiamte-Chocodra can be summoned via Burst, technically the deck was specifically Red and Blue only. The aim of the deck was to summon low cost Spirits and Ultimates, while drawing into the Ultimate Dragon cards, preferably ending the game in one turn with the attacks of the Ultimate Dragons. There were also The Beastman Amur preventing the opponent from using Magic, and Ultimate-Chocodra giving destruction prevention.

However, the deck was very slow due to the amount of steps to get to the Ultimate Dragons. The main problem was that the summon conditions for all three Ultimate Dragons required one or more Ultimates already on own's field, and most of the other usable Ultimates had summon conditions which further required Spirits on the field. During that time, there was also the risk of facing against Trigger Counter.

Ultimate-Mugendragon and Ultimate-Drian also developed their own decks. Mugendragon marked the rise of Red/Green Ultimates by pairing with The EarthDeitySword Gaianohoko and Ultimate-Seiryubi. The deck made use of Mugendragon's Ultimate Energy to deal huge punches with Ultimates, which already have high BP naturally. The deck was also more effective than the deck with all three Ultimate Dragons together, since pairing up with the Green color also meant there was core boost to sustain the high cost Ultimate cards.

On the other hand, Drian developed a fully Blue deck centered around himself. The deck was all about drawing into Drian, then attempting to end the game in one turn with Drian's unlimited attacks. Even if the opponent prevented life reduction, as long Drian could refresh, its Ultimate Trigger could also lead to deck out. There were a lot of Braves which could pair with Drian, but the most noticeable choice would be The SapphireBeastMallet PantherHammer, which could ignore Drian's summon condition. Since The Beastman Amur was a Blue Spirit, it was also used in this deck.

As the Ultimate era came to an end, so were the supports for Ultimate Dragon, leading to the deck fading away from the scene. However, during the Burning Legend era, Ultimate-Mugendragon was also considered with the new "SengokuSixGeneral"-named Ultimates, again for the Ultimate Energy keyword. With the introduction of the Evil God family in the God-King era, which was primarily Red and Green, Mugendragon was also considered in the deck for the same reasons.

As for Ultimate-Drian, his deck did not receive much attention until the God Advent era, when it introduced the Beast Head Ultimate deck featuring The Grandwalker Set. The deck introduced low cost Ultimates which only had summon conditions of needing the player to be at two lives or more. These Ultimate cards were enough to fulfill Drian's summon condition. As PantherHammer was no longer needed, players turned to another Brave, The StarDivineStaff Spica, which in short, allowed the player to activate a Cost 5 Magic effect without paying the cost in every attack. This meant that Spica could make use of the Revival version of Feather Barrier, giving Ultimate-Drian complete immunity. Spica also would not reduce its cost when braved to Drian, meaning Drian would always attack at Cost 11. Since there were rarely any decks with cards at Cost 11 or higher, it was pretty much a guaranteed hit for Drian's Double Ultimate Trigger.

In the God-King era, a single Ultimate Dragon, The UltimateGodKing Mugen-Gale-Phoenix (which was a combination of Ultimate-Mugendragon and The RoosterTwelveGodKing Gale-Phoenix), was released, due to its appearance in the Double Drive manga; and in God Advent era, The UltimateGodKing Mugenchocoian-Dragon (which was a combination of the three dragons) was introduced as one of the celebratory cards for the 10th year anniversary of the game. Mugenchocoian-Dragon in particular made several appearance in the meta since then, due to its synergy with Gaianohoko, which bumped its cost up to Cost 12, making its Ultimate Trigger and Cross Ultimate Trigger almost sure hits.

The family was then given new supports during the Contract era, with Ultimate-Mugendragon being the first Revival Ultimate card in the game. Besides the three dragons being updated with new effects adaptive to the current environment, SD64, PC01, and PC02 were also released, introduced the first Spirits in the Ultimate Dragon family. Each of the three dragons was given a new final form as Spirit cards. The new Ultimate Dragon deck revolved around more the Incarnate family than the Ultimate Dragon, as well as using the mechanics of Advent and Contract cards. The aim of the deck was to build up enough counters to advent either one of the dragons' final forms to finish the game. BS61 also introduced Mugendragon-the-Trinity-Star, which was again a combination of the three dragons, but in Spirit form.
