Well, I don't hate Heroes. I'd say, if it looks interesting to you, watch it. Just, to me, 50 episodes can be a daunting amount, so it's hard to say "go watch this 4-cour show where nothing really exciting happens until the last 10-or-so episodes."
Ultimate Zero is fun. It also leans a lot on the comedic filler side, but there is a larger plot to it. It's probably weird that Toppa Bashin is my favorite, because that one isn't plot heavy either, but what's great about it is the character development and various relationships. I feel like no other series has handled those aspects quite as well.
But Gekiha Dan, Brave and Sword Eyes are the ones to watch for the more serious/heavy plots.
