Extra Information

The name, kurofune (クロフネ), most probably comes from 黒船 (Black Ship), the name given to Western vessels arriving in Japan in the 16th and 19th centuries. It is particularly associated with the incident called "the Arrival of Black Ships (黒船来航)", also called the Perry Expedition in the West, a diplomatic and military expedition from US to the Tokugawa Shogunate that has put an end to Japan's long-lasted self-isolation. It is seen as one of the major triggers of the Meiji Restoration, a reform that is highly related to Sakamoto Ryōma.
