King Contract (王契約 ; ou-keiyaku) is a family introduced in BS62, possessed exclusively by the Contract card The PartnerLion Raon, and the Blue cards with Contract Advent in the same set. The family is a representation to the contract which the Contractor X (kai) made with Raon in the lore, and Raon's identity as a King. Contract Advent Cards affiliated with Raon also has the family.
Play Style[]
As currently all cards in this family are either a Contract card or a Blue card with Contract Advent, the deck highly revolves around the Advent mechanic. As part of the new series after the age of Rebirth cards, it also plays around high numbers of counters to differentiate themselves from the previous cards. Cards in this family are also always paired with the Azure Wave family, often along with a tertiary family which is mostly irrelevant to the play style of the deck, so the play style may overlap with other Azure Wave family cards. However, Raon also introduces a new keyword, AFO (All For One), which allows him to share effects from other Spirits, making his own attack more impactful. As such, the King Contract deck is certainly filled with Azure Wave cards, but most of them are also from BS62 to support AFO.
As Raon is the main source of increasing counters, it's advised to put him in starting hand, so that it's guaranteed to have him on the field right from the start. It's also advised to go first in the game if possible, as Raon's counter increase doesn't involve attacking, but instead it's by summoning Spirits that have the AFO keyword. Since Raon can summon them without paying the cost, the first turn has just enough cores to summon Raon and also summoning another Spirit with AFO. Since Raon himself doesn't provide draws or hand filter, the deck makes use of The ImperialLionGuard Dragoon-Golem and The ImperialLionGuard Rapine, which are both Raon's personal support, to cover that up. Some players may also play Ino Racer and Stream Draw from BS60 for more cheap hand filter (as well for the pseudo-hand protection in Ino Racer's case).
Different from Shack's Azure Contract, instead of focusing on discarding less and drawing more, Raon focuses on recovering resources from the Trash and adding them back to Hand, which is rather rare in Blue. Its own effect can return cards discarded via Blue's draw-and-discard effect, and synergize with its add counter effect by repeat the summon of such cards. This is particularly good to be used with cards that have "once per turn" limitations, like the (When Summoned) effect of The ImperialLionGuard Dragoon-Golem.
The finisher of the deck is The MightyKing King-Raon, which allows itself and Spirits with AFO on the same field to remain when being removed by the opponent, so to make sure that the other Spirits can still provide the AFO effects to him. Its Over Count effect also allows it to give a life burn for each two Spirits with AFO, as well as refreshing once. With a double symbol, it's forcing the opponent to either use defensive cards, or blocking while also losing lives. Since it can remain on Field even when destroyed by BP, the finishing power is very high. With Raon's ability to return cards from Trash, it is often paired with The ImperialLionGuard Ortho-Tiger, so that the opponent can't end the Attack Step as a means of defense. Players may also consider using The SixAbsoluteDeity Greytia-of-Benevolence, a generic Azure Wave support card released from the same set, to make the block conditional, so that the opponent would lose more from the attack. Due to the nature of building up counters, as well as Blue's ability of filtering from hand (instead of "reveal and add"), the deck can also fit in other cards that are originally unrelated to the Azure Wave or Azure Contract family. A typical example is braving King-Raon to Blue Demon-God for a bigger symbol punch, The ThreeDisasterBeasts SeaDisaster Desirathan for wide range depletion with little to no costs, and EVANGELION Mark. 06 -Spear of Cassius- and The DarkStones SandseaPirateDeity Pharaom as counter cards.
