Dispersion (分散, Bunsan) is a keyword exclusive to Yellow Spirits introduced in BS29. Spirits with this effect have the following text:

  • Dispersion: X (When Battles) When you use a Magic card that targets one opposing Spirit/Ultimate, change the number of targets to X.

(X = the number indicated by the effect.)

This effect allows for Magic cards to have a much heavier impact on the opposing Spirits and Ultimates. Without having to pay the cost or using the Magic multiple times, you can easily cut down the opposing forces. Important things to note include the fact that the effect requires the Magic to be a solo-target effect, and it only applies to "use" of Magic cards, but not "activation". For effect with multiple parts that target more than one Spirit in total, if the parts are connected by "also (さらに)", Dispersion can't apply, as the effect targets more than one Spirit/Ultimate at the same time; If the parts are connected by "then (その後)", or "after this effect resolves (この効果を発揮後)", and each part only targets one Spirit/Ultimate, Dispersion can apply, as the timing of the different parts of the effect are different.

Official Q & A[]

No. Question Answer
1 What does Dispersion do? When you use a Magic card that targets a single opposing Spirit/Ultimate, it allows you to increase the number of targets of that effect to the number stated in the effect. (e.g. Increase to 3 for Dispersion: 3)
2 When you activate the Burst of a Magic card that targets a single opposing Spirit/Ultimate, can you activate Dispersion? No, you can't. The activation of Burst, or the activation of the Main/Flash effect of a Burst aren't treated as "using a Magic card".
3 When you change the target of a Magic card that targets a single opposing Spirit/Ultimate to two via Dispersion: 2, can you target one Spirit and one Ultimate respectively? Yes, you can.
4 When activating the Rush effect of a Magic card, can you activate Dispersion? No, you can't.
5 When using Magics with effects that don't specify "one Spirit" like Deadly Balance or Core Drain, can you activate Dispersion? No, you can't.
6 When using Danse Macabre with Dispersion: 2, if you discard one card from Hand, can you send one core each from two opposing Spirits to the Trash? No, you can't. With Dispersion: 2, you can choose two targets, but the amount of cores to be removed still depends on the number of cards you discarded, which is one in this case.
7 When using Crystal Crack with Dispersion: 2, how do you resolve the effect? Send cores from two opposing Spirits to their Trash so that each of them has one core left on it.
8 When using Diva Medley with Dispersion: 2, you can choose to "return two opposing Spirits to the deckbottom", or "by sending a core from your Trash to the Void, return two opposing LV3 Ulimates to the deckbottom"? Yes. However, when choosing the second option, since it is a "by A do B" effect, if you can't return two opposing LV3 Ulimates, you can't activate the effect.
9 For effects like Fireball Attack's, if the effect target becomes multi-target, can Dispersion be activated? No, you can't.
10 When using Binding Creeper while you control any Ultimate, or paying Soul Core to use Wind-Thunder Break, so that apart from the original target of the Magic, an extra Spirit is targeted by the effect, can you activate Dispersion? No, you can't. With an additional target, the effect becomes an effect that target two or more Spirits/Ultiamtes at once.
11 When using Crescent Howling or Dream Ribbon (Revival), where different Spirits/Ultimates are targeted at different instances as connected by the effect clause "then" or "after this effect resolves", can Dispersion be applied to the corresponding instances? Yes, you can. If you use Crescent Howling with Dispersion: 2, you can return two opposing Spirits to the Hand with the first part, and another two opposing Spirits to the Hand for the part after "then".
12 When using effects like Lightning Poison's Flash effect, where one Spirit is targeted for the destroy and the other is targeted for moving the cards, such that the effects are independent but resolved at the same time, can Dispersion be applied? No, it can't, as two or more opposing Spirits are targeted at the same time.
